Now Available: 16 New Cat Medications, Treatments and Wellness Products

A recent spike in cat ownership is good news – and the even better news? There are now more medications than ever to treat cats with.

It’s not just more people owning cats, either. More single men are becoming cat owners. And homes with three cats or more has had tremendous growth at nearly 40%!

Patterson Vet has expanded its product portfolio to include advanced therapeutics, chronic disease management, behavioral support and nutrition – all tailored to cats.

      Advanced therapeutics

Historically, cats have lagged behind dogs for innovative therapies. That gap is beginning to narrow with innovations like Felycin (sirolimus delayed release).

Borrowing from transplant and oncology, these therapies reflect a shift: cardiology is moving past symptom control and into precision pharmacology.

Similarly, Zorbium (transdermal buprenorphine) represents an advancement in analgesia. It’s a topical formulation that helps the cat and the owner with the long-standing challenge in pet medicine: compliance. By eliminating the need for oral dosing or repeated injections, solutions like Zorbium improve both patient outcomes and caregiver compliance.

      Endocrine care

Endocrine disorders still rank at the top for common chronic conditions in cats. Luckily, this category is seeing rapid expansion.

Felanorm (methimazole oral solution)  is a more flexible approach to treating hyperthyroidism, particularly for cats that resist tablets. It’s formulated as a liquid – easy home treatment is a differentiator, not just a convenience.

Bexacat (bexagliflozin)  introduces a non-insulin oral for feline diabetes. Instead of managing glucose reactively with insulin, SGLT2 inhibitors like Bexacat enable glucose excretion via the kidneys, which works well for early-stage or newly diagnosed cases. Bexacat is a move forward, toward earlier intervention and simplified at-home care.

      Preventive medicine

As feline visits increase and preventive care becomes more consistent, fundamentals like coverage and trust carry more weight. Products that deliver on these stand out because they work, every time.

TruFel Ultra vaccines show how even established categories continue to evolve, emphasizing broad-spectrum protection and reliability. The shift is less about reinvention and more about consistency, particularly as feline visits increase and preventive care becomes more standardized.

First Companion's SteelCoat Plus for Cats  is a waterproof topical flea and tick solution. Active ingredients of fipronil + (S)-Methoprene (like Frontline Plus for Cats) make it an affordable treatment to prevent all stages of fleas – adults, eggs and larvae.

      Nutraceuticals and behavioral health

Nutraceuticals and behavioral meds are two of the fastest-growing areas in feline care and are increasingly integrated into everyday treatment plans.

Products like Welactin Tidbits (omega-3 supplementation) and Ursolyx Cat (joint support) highlight the growing emphasis on long-term wellness and mobility, especially for aging cats. Once considered adjuncts, these products are now part of proactive care designed to extend quality of life for cats.

Behavioral health is also getting overdue attention. Zenifel for calming and stress support aligns with increasing recognition that stress-related conditions such as not using the litter box, hiding or reduced appetite are common and clinically significant. The normalization of behavioral support products reflects a more holistic view of feline health, one that integrates mental and emotional well-being.

      New in nutrition

Nutrition continues to evolve from baseline sustenance to targeted therapeutic support as well.

Purina Feline EN diets exemplify clinically driven nutrition for gastrointestinal health, often used as part of multimodal treatment plans.

And products like Churu treats serve a dual role: not just nutrition, but engagement and compliance tools, often used for med administration that can strengthen the human–animal bond.

This dual-purpose approach highlights an insight: in feline care, palatability and experience matter as much as formulation.

That same idea is driving interest in products such as Greenies Pill Pockets for Cats. While simple in concept,compliance-focused products address one of the most persistent challenges in feline medicine: getting the medicationinto the patient. By turning medication administration into a treat experience, Pill Pockets can improve adherence whilereducing stress for both cats and owners alike.
Pivetal Probiotic Supplement for Cats can be used for gastrointestinal health and microbiome balance – and reflects the growing interest in digestive wellness and whole-patient care.

      Dermatology and specialty care

Another area experiencing continued innovation is dermatology and specialty therapeutics. Managing chronic skin andear conditions can be challenging, but these products can help.

Animal Pharmaceuticals’ Pharmaseb line gives you additional options for practices managing dermatologic conditions, supporting treatment protocols focused on skin health, cleansing and maintenance.
Fluodrop 0.5% Concentration expands the therapeutic toolbox with a ready-to-use fluorescein stain to help identify corneal ulcers, abrasions and other surface abnormalities, as well as assess tear duct patency.
KeraVet Bio Gel is a new topical hydrogel for wound and skin management – another tool for post-procedure anddermatologic care.

A more complete cat care model

Taken together, this portfolio reflects a broader shift in veterinary medicine:

      • From reactive to proactive care – early intervention, chronic management
      • From single condition to multidimensional treatment – physical + behavioral + nutritional
      • From efficacy alone to usability and compliance – transdermals, liquids, palatable formats
      • From limited feline-specific options to a growing catalog of products developed with cats and cat owners in mind

Cats are finally getting species-specific innovation across the care continuum!
